Varsity Head Coach
Terri Simonetti Frost

I graduated from Ottawa Hills High School in 1989 and earned a full scholarship to play field hockey for Boston University.  In the four years I played at B.U., we always finished in the top twelve (in the country) and earned two NCAA bids.  We were also Conference Champions in 1989 and 1991.  My senior year I became an All-American, First Team All-Conference, First Team All-Region All-American and the Most Valuable Player of my Team.

After college, I coached at Ottawa Hills for two years and helped coach them to the Final Four of the OHSAA Tournament in 1994 and 1995.  I became the Head Field Hockey Coach for Grandview Heights in 1996 and enjoyed building the program from the ground up!  For six summers I coached at summer camps for Northeastern University, University of Connecticut, University of Maine, and Northwestern University.  I coached for two years in the National Futures Program and began a winter and summer league with Janet Baird in 1999.  I coached an Ohio Festival Team in Florida or California for six years and enjoyed coaching other players from the Central Ohio area.

I was hired to coach the Thomas Worthington Field Hockey Team in 1999, and in 2010 I was named the NFHS National Coach of the Year. I was also the NFHCA West Region Coach of the Year in 2010 and 2007, and in 2016, 2011 and 2002 I was selected as the Central Ohio Coach of the Year.

The Thomas Worthington Field Hockey team won the 2007, 2011, 2015 and 2016 State Championships, and in 2010 and 2013 we were the State Runner-Up.  During the 2002, 2005, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2016 seasons, the TWFH team was District Champions and made the Ohio State Final Four Tournament.  The team has also been the Central Ohio League Champions six times in 2003, 2006, 2008, 2009 2011 and 2013 and West Region League Champions in 2015 and 2016.

In 2003 during the regular season, we defeated Columbus Academy, 2-1, for the first time in Thomas Worthington history, and Academy had not lost a regular season game in five years.  During the 2005 season, we defeated Columbus Academy in Triple Overtime (4-3) in the District Championship Game.  We broke their 46 game winning streak and a ten year appearance in the Final Four!  In 2006 we were undefeated during our regular season games and came up short during the District Final game to Bishop Watterson.  In 2007 we beat Watterson 3-0 in the State Championship Game, and throughout the whole tournament we outscored our opponents 28-1 and outshot our opponents 98-3.  We had an AMAZING tournament performance!  In 2008 we defeated Bishop Watterson in Triple Overtime, 2-1, in the District Championship but lost the Final Four game to Columbus Academy, 0-1, in the last 18 seconds (heart breaking loss).  In 2009 we fell short again to Columbus Academy in Triple Overtime, 1-2 in the District Championship Game.  In 2010 we beat Watterson in the District Final Game with one play left in Overtime off of a beautifully executed corner.  We continued our journey to the State Semi-Final Game vs. the undefeated Columbus Academy team and beat them 3-2 in regulation.  We made it to the State Championship game vs. Cincinnati St. Ursula and unfortunately dominated the game but lost 1-0.  We outshot our opponent 14-2 but could not finish, and we denied them a shot for the first 42 minutes, but they eventually found the back of the cage.  Even though we fell short, we had a very successful season!  In 2011 we won the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, defeating Hathaway Brown 1-0 in Overtime!  During the tournament, we outscored our opponents 19-2 and outshot our opponents 89-16!  We also had an undefeated season, 20-0-1!  In 2012 we fell short in the District Final game vs. Bishop Watterson 0-1.  In 2013 we were the State Runner-up, and we are ready to go back to the Championship game this season and win the gold!!  In 2014, we played a great game vs. Columbus Academy but lost in the last 2 minutes.  In 2015, we went UNDEFEATED (20-0-1) and finished the season with a 3-0 win beating Hudson and winning the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP!!  In 2016, we had many ups and downs throughout the season because we were young and trying to find our way as a team. In early October we lost back to back games, but after those two loses we found our way and never lost another game; hence, repeating as STATE CHAMPIONS! We beat Ursuline in OT 2-1 and Shaker Heights in the Finals 3-0 scoring all three goals in the last seven and a half minutes of the game!!  MY GOAL this year for this team is to 3-REPEAT and MAKE HISTORY, YET AGAIN!!!  I know that my team is ready to come back and fight this season, and we will EMBRACE the TARGET and work hard to win it all again this year.

I had four athletes in 2003 earn Division I field hockey scholarships:  Lauren Cassady (Ohio University), Katie Charles (Northwestern University), Erin Isler (Indiana University), and Madison Bell (Stanford University).  I had one player, Simone Attles, from the 2006 season earn a Division I field hockey scholarship to the University of Louisville.  Kelsey Brinkman from the 2007 TW State Championship team played Division I field hockey at the University of North Carolina and was also on the 2009 NCAA Championship Team (first player at TWHS to WIN a State and National Championship).  Anna Simmons from the 2009 team earned a scholarship to play Division I field hockey at Stanford University and started as a freshman.  Kristi Gegas earned a scholarship to Ohio University in 2010, and I had one player, Cami Mullins, from the 2011 TW State Championship earn a scholarship to Missouri State University.  Maddie Goelz from the 2013 team plays Division III field hockey at Wittenberg University.  From the 2014 team Christina Mertz is playing DII field hockey at Mercyhurst and lastly, Hana Sinno earned a scholarship to my alma mater, Boston University!!  I am looking forward to watching them all play at the collegiate level.  I am looking forward to seeing who is next to play at the Division I, II or III level in the upcoming years!!
